Thailand is always a go-to place included in many traveller bucket lists. It’s a popular destination for beach bums and daring vacationers who love the country’s potent offerings of wonderful coastlines, partying, culture and bargain shopping deals.
But there’s no need to wonder where to stay in Phuket, here are the three best places for a hotel in Phuket: Karon, Patong and Kamala.

After you’ve found your dream stay on Phuket, don’t forget to take a lot at my one day itinerary for Phuket and packing list for your tropical getaway. Scooting around the island is the best way to sightsee but if you want to stay around the beaches, you could also look into getting a bike as you can do some cycling around Thailand in general.
Karon
Karon Beach in Phuket is found on the island’s west coast, alongside the Andaman Sea. The lengthy stretch of surf and white sand makes it a prime beach getaway for travellers who want a more subdued seaside setting.
While it’s considered a resort town, you can still get into some good activities and explore popular sights. For one, you can visit the Big Buddha for a breathtaking 360-view of the island and the setting sun.
Then, check out the hubbub on Tuesdays and Saturdays in the Karon Temple Market and Karon Bazaar. Watch live music at One Man Soi and party the night away at the Bangla Plaza down on Patat Road.
Mellow Space Boutique Rooms
The Mellow Space Boutique Rooms has all the contemporary amenities you need for a quiet and relaxing Karon accommodation. Every room comes with air conditioning and Wi-Fi coverage. Chat with other guests in the seating area or enjoy a nightcap at the private balcony.
- Location: 450 m from Karon Beach, 0.9 km from Starbucks Kata Beach
- Perks: Free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, flat screen cable TV, en suite bathroom with shower, fan, fridge, safe
- Budget for accommodation: $

Patong
Patong is the most popular tourist hub in Phuket due to its wider selection of sights to see and things to do in Phuket. It’s the island’s premier party destination for the young and told.
Take in the local colour by catching the Simon Cabaret, which is the biggest cabaret show in Asia featuring trans performers. Also, you can explore Wat Patong, the Kathu Waterfall, Freedom Beach and Paradise Beach.
For those who want to let loose, the Bangla Walking Street is a classic in let-your-hair down good times. It’s packed to the rafters with nightclubs, beer joints, and go-go bars. For shopping, Jungceylon is the place to go for local and imported merch. Finish all that sightseeing and clubbing with an authentic Muay Thai spectacle before flying home.
LIV Hotel Phuket Patong Beachfront
The LIV Hotel Phuket Patong Beachfront is often brimming with tourists and with great reasons; it’s one of the best places to stay in the Patong strip. The place serves up a smattering of facilities from an outdoor swimming pool, a restaurant, a terrace, garden and a bar.
While it is quite close to the hustle and bustle of Patong, the hotel is quiet in the evenings. Solo travellers can avail of the Deluxe Double or Twin Room options.
- Location: 100 m from Patong Beach, 1.2 km from Tri Trang Beach
- Perks: Free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, flat screen TV, private bathroom with shower and hairdryer, fridge
- Budget for accommodation: $

Kamala
Kamala on the other hand, is a different animal. Like Karon, it’s quieter compared to the noise and merriment going on in vivacious, colourful Patong. It does have its fair share of traveller attractions. It’s a surfer’s hub, attracting surfing and stand-up paddle board enthusiasts the world over and it also features the Phuket Fantasea Park.
Beach clubs like the HQ Beach Club and Café del Mar brought some nightlife promise to the area. Still, it’s a charming place for travellers who just want a serene spot. This way, you can fully enjoy the beach and contemplate, get away from the clamour of work and hectic city life.
Naka Resort
The Naka Resort features fashionable modern digs in the surf and turf area of Nakalay Beach. Guests get to enjoy not only the nearby coastlines, but an outdoor pool, private balconies, a restaurant and quiet nights.
You can also partake breakfast fare every day at the Naka Restaurant. Convenience stores and markets are located nearby. Solo travellers who want privacy are taken care of with the resort’s superior pool view room option.
- Location: 0 km from Kamala Beach
- Perks: Free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, pool view, hairdryer, free toiletries, fridge, minibar
- Budget for accommodation: $
